Three bellwether Risperdal lawsuit dates have been set for the coming months, with one in November 2014, one in January 2015 and one in February 2015. Bellwether trials are court cases that may help determine whether drug manufacturer Janssen Pharmaceuticals and parent company Johnson & Johnson elect to settle additional Risperdal lawsuits.
Risperdal is an antipsychotic drug given to treat the symptoms of bipolar disorder, as well as ADHD. Many patients and health professionals have expressed concerns the drugs are being overused in children and adolescents, especially those in foster care.
Multiple Risperdal lawsuits allege the drug caused gynecomastia, or male breast tissue growth, in young boys and male adolescents. The drug has been found to increase levels of the hormone prolactin for an indefinite period of time, which can lead to irreversible breast tissue growth.
